I had an opportunity to read Far East of the Sun. I was struck by the love and spirituality between Anya and Sasha and the deep commitment they shared for one another as husband and wife and their family. Their story was riveting and it was hard to put the book down. The author, Janina Stankiewicz Chung, recently spoke at our church. She is an engaging speaker and brought her book alive before us. War in all its facets is so devastating. One feels this first hand as Janina draws in her audience as she recounts her family’s life experiences, ultimate plight and sacrifices prior to, during and post WWII and her family’s eventual immigration to the United States, seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time and making the United States their new home.
